Ministry: Russia’s buckwheat stock sufficient, deficit ruled out

MOSCOW, Sep 20 (PRIME) -- Russia’s buckwheat reserves are sufficient and the possibility of shortage is ruled out, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

“The ministry assesses the buckwheat stocks as sufficient, there is no possibility of deficit... Production volumes of buckwheat cover demand of processing enterprises, which allows us to fully meet the needs of the local market,” the ministry said.

Producers’ prices for buckwheat fell 0.9% on the month as of September 15. Buckwheat retail prices rose 0.3% to 102.51 rubles per kilogram from August 15 through September 15, an increase of 17.8% on the year.

The buckwheat crop area rose 12.1% to 975,900 hectares in 2021. As of September 16, 30% of the crops have been harvested.
